Tottenham Hotspur forward Mohammed Kudus has withdrawn from the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cote d’Ivoire and The Gambia, according to a report by 3Sports.
Kudus had been included in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad after making his return to the Black Stars following a lengthy injury layoff that ruled him out of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The 26-year-old had spent around seven months on the sidelines before gradually returning to competitive action for Tottenham.
He made three appearances from the bench before being handed his first start since recovering from the injury in Tottenham’s Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool.
His withdrawal will come as a setback to Queiroz, who had identified the Ghana international among the key returnees ahead of the start of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The Ghana Football Association had confirmed Kudus’ return to the squad on September 18, describing him as one of several players returning to the national team after missing the World Cup.
Ghana are scheduled to open their qualifying campaign away to C9te d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
The Black Stars will then travel to Morocco for an international friendly against the Atlas Lions on October 4.
Kudus’ decision also comes after Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi had indicated earlier this month that the Ghanaian was still working his way back to full fitness following his long injury absence.
