The motive behind my song, ‘Lamine Yamal’ was not to get his attention - Kuami Eugene

Ghanaian music star Kuami Eugene recently addressed widespread speculation about his new song “Lamine Yamal,” clarifying that the track was not created to attract the attention of Spanish football sensation Lamine Yamal.

In an interview on Kwadwo Sheldon Studios on December 25, 2025, the “Rockstar” singer explained that the song was born out of creative energy and confidence in the track’s own appeal rather than any intention of reaching out to the Barcelona and Spain attacker. He emphasized that the quality of the song would speak for itself, without needing endorsement from the player it references.

Contrary to assumptions by some fans that releasing a song named after a globally known teen footballer was a strategic bid to shift his club allegiance or capture the player’s direct notice, Kuami Eugene dismissed those notions. He revealed he has not been contacted by Lamine Yamal, and his personal football loyalties remain with Real Madrid — spotlighting Vinicius Jr as his favorite player — despite the song highlighting a Barcelona star.

Beyond the football references, Eugene portrayed “Lamine Yamal” as a celebration of resilience, ambition, and rising confidence. He even likened himself to Yamal in how both handle criticism and stay focused amid public scrutiny.

The song itself has quickly become a buzzing anthem, with its repetitive, high-energy chorus celebrating momentum and dominance, reflecting Kuami Eugene’s signature blend of Afrobeat and motivational lyricism. “Lamine Yamal” is less about literal fandom and more about using the name of a young, unstoppable talent to symbolize self-belief and personal ascendancy in one’s field.

This creative choice underscores Eugene’s broader artistic vision — one that seeks to inspire listeners rather than chase celebrity endorsements.
