Black Stars embarasses Ghana as they draw to Chad in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Chad score late through Young Africans attacker Célestin Ecua to hold Ghana to a 1-1 in match-day 7 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Marshal Idriss Déby Itno Olympic Stadium.

Coach Otto Addo surprisingly left out first team players like Thomas Partey, Mohammed Salisu and Tariq Lamptey on the bench and handed starting berths to Caleb Yirenkyi, Jonas Adjetey, Benjamin Asare and others

‘Les Sao’ really made a very good impression at the start of the game and came close on some few occasions notably Dia Wah Michael’s great cross that was parried away by Benjamin Asare.

It took the Black Stars sixteen minutes to open the scoring account after Kudus Mohammed sent in a little cross to set up captain Jordan Ayew at far post and made no mistake by tapping into the net.

Despite trailing at half-time, Chad bounced back stronger just like how they started the first half and hugely appeal for a penalty in the 52nd minute after Tchaouna Haroun appeared to have been brought down in the box by Jonas Adjetey but the referee wasn’t interested.

Kamaldeen Sulemana just few minutes after his introduction made a daring run above two players and struck at goal but was covered by goalkeeper Mbayenaissem Jourdain.

Gideon Mensah played himself into trouble after gifting a ball in a dangerous position to Frank Tchaouna but his strike went straight at Benjamin Asare.

Chad finally equalized in the 89th minute after Cèlestin Ecua made a great run and struck into the net beyond the reach of Asare after a wicked deflection. It ended 1-1 in N’Djamena after full-time.

The Black Stars have now recorded their first draw of the campaign and have moved to 16 points to remain on top of Group I after seven matches

They will host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8, in match-day 8 of the ongoing qualifiers, while Chad will take on Madagascar.
