Bread Bakers Association in the Ashanti Region has reportedly increased the prices of bread with immediate effect.
According to a report by UTV, the increment was announced at a Press Conference which took place in the Ashanti regional Capital, Kumasi over the weekend where the decision came to top up the price of a loaf of bread by 20%.
Secretary of the Ashanti Regional Bread Bakers association Isaac Amoah stated at the conference that the increase in prices has become necessary due to the price of flour that has gone up from GHS160 to GHS220.
In another revelation on the same platform, he said the price of margarine has shot up from GHS98 to GHS142, while the price of sugar also going up from GHS150 to GHS210.
All this three are the major materials used in baking the bread and since their prices shot up, it means Bakers will run at a lost if they continue to sell their products at the same prices they used to sell it.
As a result, consumers will now have to pay more as the Bread prices in the Region has been increased by 20%.
